Degustation à Chateau Cabazac

On May 21st,  12 ASF members visited Chateau Cabezac for a wine tasting  hosted by
Marie Binisti who was really  knowledgeable and excellent – both in French and English.

We visited the cellars – covering two floors beneath the road and were shown the 6000 litre barrels in oak and stainless steel. Details of the actual making of the wines was shown.  Almost 90% of Cabezac wines are hand-picked – very labour intensive.
In addition we saw the smaller barrels of the mainly red wines – Syrah, Grenache Noir, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon to mention only some! We also saw bottles of the white Petit Arthur being labelled and packed into cartons.

A most enjoyable and interesting morning!

A dégustation at Domaine des 7 Ecluses.

On June 13th we enjoyed a degustation at the Domaine des 7 Ecluses with our hosts Marie and Pierre.  We first tasted the Ugni Blanc – probably everybody’s favourite.  More Ugni Blanc is grown  in France than any other variety but it is mainly used in distilling. We also tried a Chardonnay, a Syrah rosé and two reds. All were delicious!  All the wines are produced and bottled at the Domain.  Excellent snacks were provided by Marie and Pierre and a most enjoyable evening passed very quickly.  We will return!

Visite to Le Grand Celièr at Cabazac

On Tuesday 8th April 2014 at Le Grand Celièr at Cabazac, we enjoyed wine tasting and the art of blending red wine.  The sommelier, Cyrille, presented us with four red wines, Grenache, Carignan, and wooded and unwooded Syrah.  Before tasting he asked us to guess the essences that we could smell in the wine:  spices, raspberry, coffee, vanilla – the nose. We then blended the four wines to make our own wine.  Cyrille then poured the five blends into glasses so that everyone could choose their favourite.  The winners were Georgie and Bob.  We hope to be able to repeat this very successful visit.
